Summer Intensives and Classes

As Spring classes are finishing up and the curtain is closing on recitals, the next thing on everyone's mind is FIRST a break, which is greatly deserved! But SECOND is summer classes and intensives. But which one should you choose? How long do they last? Do you have to audition? How much does it cost? We hope to help with your decision with our complete guide to Oklahoma summer intensives below! (Please note that this does not include regular summer classes at studios, this is only workshops and intensives). If we have missed any, let us know and we will update our list!

BALLET

Tulsa Ballet's Pointe to the Future
June 29th-July 25th
Classes will be offered in CLASSICAL BALLET, POINTE, CHARACTER, JAZZ, CONTEMPORARY, VARIATIONS, and PARTNERING. Class level placement and qualification for pointe classes is entirely the decision of the Artistic Staff. Students will receive preliminary class placement based upon their audition. However, the Artistic Staff reserves the right to make placement changes throughout the duration of Pointe to the Future.

Junior Intensive ~ June 29th – July 11th, 2015
Students accepted into level 1 or 2 will be invited to attend our Junior Intensive. This is a 2 week program. All Junior Intensive students will participate in the Final Demonstration on July 12th.

Senior Intensive ~ June 29th-July 25th, 2015
Students accepted into levels 3, 4, 5 or 6 will be invited to attend our Senior Intensive. Students may choose to attend 2 or 4 weeks. Students who wish to attend two weeks only can attend Weeks One & Two or Weeks Three & Four. Students who wish to participate in the Final Demonstration must attend the second two weeks of the intensive.

Each regular class day will consist of a minimum of three classes (depending upon placement), supplemented by enrichment classes as scheduled. During Week Four, portions of regular classes may be used in preparation for the final demonstration. By audition only (more audition info on their website), you must be 9 years old or older with at least 3 years of classical ballet training. Classes include Ballet, Pointe, Character, Jazz, Contemporary, Variations, and Partnering.
Lower level tuition for a 2 week session is $600
Upper level tuition for a 2 week session is $750 and the 4 week session is $1300

OU SummerWind Youth Ballet Intensive
June 14th-27th
By audition only, you must be between the ages of 11 and 18 with pointe and classical ballet experience (see website for more specifics). Classes include Ballet, Repertoire, Character, Pantomime, Modern, Jazz, Pilates, and Yoga and will include seminars on dance history, stage makeup, nutrition, and injury prevention.
Tuition is $790 with a $35 activity fee

Oklahoma City Ballet Summer Intensive
June 8th-July 17th
Split into 3 different sessions by audition only, you must be between the ages of 13 and 23 with 2 years of pointe experience. Classes inclue Ballet, Pointe, Men’s Technique, Variations, Partnering, Composition, Jazz, Modern, Pilates, Yoga, Nutrition, Dance History, and Injury Prevention
Tuition- Six weeks $2100, three weeks $1050
Dormitory Housing- Six weeks $3000, three weeks $1500
Activities Fee for Dormitory Students- Six weeks $300, three weeks $150

MUSICAL THEATER

OCU Broadway Bound Workshop
July 8th-18th
This workshop program is for high school students ages 15 to 18 who are interested in Broadway and entertainment dance. Classes include Musical Theater Dance, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Rhythm Tap, Ballet, Triple Threat Classes, Acting, and Singing.
Tuition is $1195 including room and board

MIXED DISCIPLINES

The One Dance Intensive
September 19th and 20th
All ages allowed, this intensive has a convention like feel with premier faculty! Classes include contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Lyrical, Nutrition, Improv, and many more.
Tuition ranges between $225-$250

Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain
June 13th-28th
This audition only summer intensive is for high school students, with an option of either ballet or modern for dance. Within each discipline, students will take a variety of classes, take part in showings and performances, and interact with other students in their prospective disciplines.
All students who are selected will attend on full scholarship (a $2500 worth), but there are auditions and application fees.

UCO Summer Dance Workshop
June 15th-19th
This intermediate/advanced workshop for ages 12 and up is open enrollment with limited space. Classes include Modern, Ballet, Jazz and Repertory with a performance at the end of the week.
Tuition is $200

Remember to arrive at least 15 minutes early to the dress rehearsal and 30 minutes early to the performance! Be quiet and courteous while you are in the theater or auditorium and always stay silent when backstage. Make sure you listen to announcements and are prepared and aware of where you are in the show. Also be sure to clean up after yourself in the dressing rooms. And remember to have fun!
